Fight For Civilization

Page history last edited by Mokona Go 13 years, 3 months ago

Ericaceae gazed up at the evening sky. From her position in the grass, she could see the perfect beauty and splendor of the waxing moon growing brighter in the darkening sky. She loved to lay in the cool, soft grass on summer nights, the crickets chirping and birds twittering as the sped toward their nests. Ah, there's Venus, the evening star, she thought to her self, smiling up at the planet that had just appeared. She loved looking up at the stars, especially when she was away from the busy city lights and up in the mountains, where she could see the beautiful milky way spread across the sky in its full splendor. She really only went to her family's cabin once or twice a month in the summer, and it smelled strange because her family was never at the Saturn Lodge enough to take care of the mouse problem. Still, she always felt the thrill of taking down her favorite sword down from its place and attacking a few bushes. Then, once she couldn't see well enough to tell what she was whacking, she would join her dad, who always set up the 16-inch telescope right before the last rays of sun disappeared, and get a chance to slew the telescope to the next m-object. Her dad had made it a goal for her family to observe all 110 objects, but so far she had only seen about 50 or 60.

According to her brother's accusing argument against the way money was being used in the U.S., the government could potentially have enough money to build a jet that could safely fly in a low Earth orbit. He had explained the technical points of the engine design needed, but Ericaceae couldn't remember a single detail of his rant about the most efficient cooling systems. She could only imagine the beauty of traveling at such altitudes.

"Hey, why don't we have a bake sale and sell cookies for a million dollars apiece?" she joked, resulting in her brother telling her just how many cookies they would need to sell to raise enough money to begin to fund it. Ericaceae's mouth dropped open.

"Holy cow" she breathed, "That's a lot of cookies."

Laughing for a few moments, her brother proceed to tell her that if they could build such a jet, they could build a space craft that could travel to the asteroid belt and harvest valuable metals and resources, when Earth was running out of her supply. But of course, we were in a war, so we had to make do with only an inconsequential fraction of the metals we could have in a few decades or less. ( btw, guess what XD LOL <3 <3 <3!!! http://www.astronautix.com/lvs/skylon.htm )

I look up the nemesis star for possible sun-like conditions and end up getting sidetracked to Gliese 581c and Gliese 581d.
It's fascinating.
Turns out nemesis is a red dwarf star. It might have extrasolar planets, if it exists.
I <3 astronomy.

Otter pops are a type of popsicle. They come in plastic packaging that has to be cut open to get to the pop. Some flavors are good. What does that have to do with the fight for civilization and/or your previous conversation?
