Runo stared at his reflection in the river. It was awkward, even though nobody else was there in the wilderness, but with fast-moving water peppered by raindrops and churned by wind, it took a while of staring to see if there was a ring around his irises. As it turned out, there was. And pretty thick, too; almost thicker than when he was around Kake.

"And that means you'll still need the whip?"

     Runo jumped. "Kake!? M-mind-reading...!?"

"Eh? Well, you looked ready to murder someone, so..."

"Ugh--" Runo covered his face with his hand. Did he really look like a murderer? "Nevermind that--what're you doing here? How'd you find me?"

Kake giggled and squatted down next to him [ruru's kneeling by the river]. "Got lost trying to find a place to set up my booth. Now back to business."

     "'Lost' doesn't cut it..."

"In the desert, I forgot to mention that the whip was only rented off. In exchange for you being my backup bodyguard."

"How can you forget something like that!?"

"But if you still need it, I can charge 10 pintas an hour."

     "I don't have any money."

     "Eeehh? Ruru, have you been--"

"No! One person calling me that is more than enough!!"

Kake instantly recovered. "I didn't even finish the question and you answered. But we're in the same boat, so I'll let you off. How about you keep it in exchange for information? Like what're you chasing this time?"

Runo pulled out his whip. "It's not like I really need a weapon; but it wouldn't hurt to say..." Kake stared at him with a glittering eye to match the rabbit on his shoulder. Runo let out an exasperated sigh and buried his head in his hands. "Ever heard of the Navi?"

     "No." Flat-out answer.

"...They signed a treaty with the North years ago. Probably something to do with attacking the Forest of Angels."

     "Eh~, starting to sound familiar..."

"Stop it, okay? You know already, just tell me the truth. Don't think you can play with a fox without getting bitten." The wind held its breath for a moment. Should he have said that? Something in Kake's eye flickered, and a slow grin snaked its way across his lips.

     "Th--"

"Wait, hold on." The apparently unavoidable truth could wait. Something was coming. It felt familiar, except that the rain was dampening his sense of smell [i think it works!?] and whatever it was was treading in water and mud. "Is...that a..."

It galloped into the river like a train wreck, splashing all over the two of them after all their troubles to stay out of the rain.

     "...Horse?"

Kuchiha let out a war cry, riding the horse with Jay. Or more like she was trying to ride it, and thinking she was, while Jay was just barely hanging on and desperately trying to keep the three of them from tumbling into the water.

Runo was ready to cuss [the horror!] at the blatant impossibility of such randomly annoying events stacking together like this.

"So it went kinda like this: 'Hello there, may I buy a Sheemah?' 'Oh, great Kuchiha, help me!' 'What is it!? I'll help anyone who's in need!'"

"...Hey...is that really how it went?" [Runo]

     "Er..." [Jay]

"'It's the Navi! They want to attack the city, but nobody knows, and they don't believe me when I tell them!' 'Oh, that's simple! I won't let your city perish!' 'Really!? Oh great Kuchiha, thank you! So what can I do?'" Kuchiha turned to the small group and smirked, mistaking the cause of their horrified expressions to be her story. "Well, of course; beat these Navi up."

"Wha--you definitely didn't mention that!!" Jay wailed.

"Eh!? Then what did she mention?"

"Sh-she just burst in and asked what the Navi are, and then dragged me here..."

"...I think I just saw a very traumatizing side of a bounty hunter..."

"Gah--what about that was traumatizing, Ruru!!?"

"Runo!! I don't have to answer that!"

"Kuch, don't use coarse langauge if you actually know how to sound like a lady." Kake coughed to cover a laugh.

"Lady's an insult to me!!" Kake coughed again.

"So does Jay know where the Navi are?" Runo asked.

     "Why d'you ask? Don't you?"

     "Hah? No, I don't."

"But shouldn't you know already? You looked in the river and everything." [they'd exchanged stories about why they're there, sitting under a tree]

"I can't tell where things are just from looking in a river! I can only gauge threat level."

     "Huh...?"

"Jay! Do you know where the Navi are?" [kake?]

"Uh--I-I think, though they might have moved again. Violet knows where the most recent camp was, though."

     "Violet?" [Kuch]

     "My horse. She's named Violet."

"Oooh, so now I can yell at it for disobeying my riding instructions by its name."

"She says that was 100% your fault, idiot clutz." [ruru]

"SHE DID NOT SAY THAT LAST PART!!!"

Kake was suddenly attacked by a coughing fit. "...So it seems that these Navi travel a lot," he finally managed to say. "What exactly are they, though?"

"Oh. They're a South tribe that lives close by, in the Desert Rim. Um...average-sized, I think. Before the annihilation of the Blue Riders [i adamantly remain loyal to their original name!! their hair's more silver than blue, anyways!!!] they were pretty peaceful, but..."

Kuchiha's ear twitched at the word "annihilation." She glanced at Kake.

     "But...?" he urged.

"They started," Runo suddenly said, cutting off Jay's reply. His eyes were fixed in the direction of the southern road [i drew a map!! XD so basically there's the main Entrance road, which goes along the equator, and a side road out of Angel City's southern end leading to some whatever city] to Angel City.

     "Started? Started what!?" Kuchiha stood.

"I smell blood," he growled before leaping into the thrashing trees.
