Simple Poem

 

What makes a poem?

Is it rhyming couplets?

Is it a steady beat?

Is it a chorus?

Lines that repeat?               

 

Is it a story told in verse?

Is it a comparison?

Is it a charming song?

Is it descriptive language?

Does it go on and on?          

 

Could it be all of these?

Perhaps some are.

Some are sweet, some are tart.

But the truest ones can be anything.

Poetry is the language of the heart.
